Review - Hot Fuzz

Hot Fuzz

Last night I went to see the new Brit comedy, from the creators of the fantastic “Sean Of The Dead”.

What’s it about?
Hotshot cop, Nick Angel is transferred from his crime-rampant London beat, to Sandford, an idylic sleepy little backwater village. It seems that Nick is so good, he’s making the rest of the force look bad.
Nick soon finds that there is more to sleepy Sandford than meets the eye. What follows is a comedic blend of Bad Boys II, The Star Chamber and The Wicker Man. The humour leaps from corny cop movie references to fairly well troden gags about city-slickers in the country.

Is it any good?
It’s great! The first act is slow, but necessarily so, as we have a Agatha Christie-esque menangerie of village busy bodies to be introduced to. The cast is fantastic. Once the second act begins, and it’s clear that all is not right with Sandford, the pace quickens, as do the flow of gags, and the surprisingly, the gore!

Is it better that Sean Of The Dead?
Alas not. All the same ingredients are stuffed into the film, but it doesn’t quite generate the same laughter intensity as Sean. The smirk-worthy gags are constant, in fact you couldn’t probably couldn’t see them all in a single viewing, however, the big set-piece gags are few in number, and often a tad over-egged.

Sean Of The Dead was a bloody hard act to follow. Fuzz is better than good, and I recommend you see it.
